The Music
Sonny’s lifelong passion for music began at the age of six with accordion lessons in Winnipeg, Manitoba. By thirteen, he took his talent to the stage playing drums in his uncle’s country band. Raised on the sounds of country icons like Buck Owens, George Jones, Conway Twitty, Charley Pride, and Merle Haggard, Sonny steadily expanded his musical versatility beyond the drumkit to master the guitar, bass, and fiddle.
Over a decades-long career, Sonny has shared the stage with music royalty, opening shows for stars like George Jones and Pat Benatar, and winning 1st place in the 2003 Minnedosa Classic Rock Festival Battle of the Bands. Since the age of sixteen, he has toured Canada extensively—spanning British Columbia, Ontario, and the Northwest Territories—performing at clubs, casinos, and weddings, and backing prominent Manitoba artists such as Len Henry, Robbie Brass, Errol Ranville, and Clint Dutiaume.
In 2008, Sonny released his debut album, Long Ride, showcasing ten original compositions alongside his signature arrangement of “Orange Blossom Special.” Demonstrating his full range as a multi-instrumentalist and co-producer, Sonny played every instrument on the album himself, with Manitoba’s Producer of the Year, Craig Fotheringham, contributing piano. Music remains Sonny’s full-time calling, and he continues to write, perform, and tour across Canada while actively crafting material for his upcoming second album.
